SPILLMOD – A CFD MODEL FOR INFORMATION SUPPORT OF MARINE OIL SPILL RESPONSE

A mathematical model of the evolution marine oil spills with taking into account processes spreading and weathering, has been implemented as a software package called SPILLMOD. In doing so, new Eulerian-Lagrangian method for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) developed in context solving shallow-water-type equations capability to handle situation where advancing/vanishing layer light fluid (oil) only partially covers heavy (water) domain an arbitrary configuration coastline shape. When calculating evaporation high-viscosity types, effect reduction rate due molecular diffusion lighter fractions within is taken account.
